Our Patron
Saint Thomas Aquinas
Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you,
a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you,
conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance
in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you.
Amen.
About St. Thomas Aquinas
Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274) was an Italian Dominican friar, philosopher, and theologian who became one of the most influential thinkers in Western history.
Key Contributions
- Faith and Reason: He argued that faith and reason are complementary rather than conflicting, using logical inquiry to deepen human understanding of divine truths.
- The Summa Theologiae: He authored monumental works, most notably the Summa Theologiae, which serves as a comprehensive masterwork and summary of Catholic theology.
- Thomism and Natural Law: He formulated the "Five Ways" for proving God's existence and articulated the framework of natural law, establishing a philosophical foundation—known as Thomism—that shaped Catholic doctrine for centuries.
The Feast Day for St. Thomas Aquinas is celebrated on January 28th.
