"The altar server occupies a privileged place in the liturgical celebration ... you are much more than simple "helpers of the parish priest." Above all, you are servers of Jesus Christ, of the eternal High Priest.”
- St. John Paul II, General Audience, August 1, 2001

Altar Servers
Altar Servers assist the priest at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as well as at other liturgical celebrations throughout the year. They take part in carrying the cross in procession, holding the book for the priest’s prayers, preparing the altar for the sacrifice, and attending to the needs of our clergy. While altar servers primarily assist the priest who leads the community in worship, they, themselves, through prayerful reverence, assist the assembly gathered to participate more fully in prayer during Holy Mass.
Boys and girls in grade two and above who have received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are encouraged to join the team. Parents are welcome to train with their child(ren) and assist as Adult Altar Servers. Adult Altar Servers serve at Holy Mass especially at times when youth Altar Servers are unavailable.
Training and on-going formation is required and provided throughout the year for both youth and adults. Youth Altar Servers are invited to the Annual Altar Server Appreciation Mass with our Bishop and may have various gatherings throughout the year.
