Prayer Group |
History will state that the Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group began in our parish in 1984. Since its beginning the Group has seen many changes and in 1994 our Pastor Msgr. Earner asked Deacon Mel to work with the prayer group to extend its activities and introduce the celebration of the Eucharist at its Monday evening prayer meeting. Deacon Mel than asked his good friend Fr. Edgar Pelletier to work with him in accomplishing the task at hand. Since father Pelletier's death in Feb. 2006 Deacon Mel has assumed responsibility for the prayer group and Father Sojan Punakkattu Joseph, our Associate Pastor, officiates at the weekly Eucharistic celebration and assists with the prayer and worship following Mass.
Each Monday evening at 7:00 P.M. the prayer group meets in the church to celebrate the Eucharist. Following Mass the prayer group takes part in a time of prayer and worship. This is best described by St. Paul in the following scriptures.
- "Do not get drunk with wine and the ruin that goes with it, but be filled with the Holy Spirit, as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, praying and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father" (Eph.5:18-20).
- "When you assemble, one has a psalm, another an instruction, a revelation, or speaking in tongues, or interpreting what has been said in tongues. Everything should be done for building up the Church" (1Cor.14:26).
- "Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks to God, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophetic utterances. Test everything; retain what is good. Refrain from every kind of evil" (1Thes.5:16-22).
All prayer group activities are designed to bring people into a stronger relationship with our Lord and Savior, through an awakening of the Holy Sprit already sealed within our soul on the day of our baptism.
