Liturgical Ministries

When the faithful of our community gather, we become a visible sign of the Body of Christ. During this "sacrament of unity" the whole Body of the Church is involved in many different ways. Many of the important Liturgical functions of our celebrations are entrusted to the laity who are drawn from the community, trained by the parish, and entrusted with the sincere devotion and decorum expected of them by God's people. Altar servers, Ministers of Hospitality, Music Ministers, Lectors, and Eucharistic ministers all exercise a genuine liturgical function and are an integral part of our celebrations.

The Ministry of Music: There are opportunities for the adults, youth, and children of the parish to serve in this ministry as choir members and instrumentalists. There are presently two adult choirs and a children's choir, with an ensemble for youth planned in the near future. Contact Ed Donnolly, Ext.28.

Ministers of Hospitality: Greeters and ushers serve the church in a very important capacity as they welcome the faithful who gather from all parts of the community for weekend liturgies, funerals and weddings. They also assist in seating and taking up the collection. Participation in the ministry is open to all men, women, and teenage youth of the parish. Contact Mary Miller Ext. 11.

Ministry of Readers: Ministers of the Word are responsible for proclaiming the Word of God at all Liturgical celebrations in a way that enables the faithful to develop a warm and lively love for the Scriptures. Readers are assigned once every several weeks and are required to attend parish or diocesan training and renewal workshops. Parishioners of all ages are welcome and encouraged to join this ministry. Readers are also needed for weekday morning masses and funerals. Contact Joann McVeigh, Ext. 29.

Ministers of the Eucharist: Eucharistic ministers assist in the distribution of Holy Communion at all weekend and weekday masses and may become part of the ministry to the sick and homebound. Ministers are scheduled every several weeks and are required to receive training and be commissioned to serve in the parish. Contact Joann McVeigh, Ext. 29.

Ministry of Altar Servers: This ministry is open to boys and girls from the 4th to the 12th grade. Altar servers serve at all weekend liturgies and special celebrations throughout the year. Adults with altar server experience are also needed for weekday morning masses, funerals, and memorial masses. Contact Mary Miller Ext. 11.

All parishioners, especially those unable to share their time and talent in one of the above ministries are urged to pray for the success of our stewardship and ministry drive at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
